Deck & Fence Staining

Deck & Fence Staining in Brantford

Brantford's trusted deck & fence staining crew.

Wood outdoors takes a beating from sun, rain, snow and foot traffic. Staining protects it and brings back the colour and warmth that made you build the deck in the first place. Windfeld Painting cleans, brightens and sands where needed, then applies penetrating or solid stains chosen for your wood and your look.

We stain decks, fences, pergolas, railings, sheds and porches across Brantford and Brant County, usually from late spring through early autumn.

How we do it

Our deck & fence staining process.

02

Clean and brighten

Cleaner lifts dirt and grey fibres; brightener restores the wood's natural tone.

03

Dry and sand

Wood dries fully, then rough spots and raised grain are sanded.

04

Stain

Applied by brush, pad or sprayer with back-brushing for even penetration.

Good to know

Straight answers before you book.

  • Transparent and semi-transparent stains show the grain and need recoating more often. Solid stains hide the grain and last longer.
  • New pressure-treated wood should weather for a season before its first stain.
  • Stain needs dry wood and a couple of dry days. We schedule around the forecast.
  • Pair a deck stain with a fresh exterior repaint for a complete outdoor refresh.

Questions

Deck & Fence Staining FAQ.

How often should a deck be stained?

Every two to four years for transparent and semi-transparent stains, and four to six years or more for solid stains, depending on sun exposure and traffic.

Can you stain over an old stain?

Often yes, if the old finish is sound and compatible. If it is peeling or failing, it needs to be stripped first. We will assess it and recommend the right approach.

What is the difference between staining and painting a deck?

Stain penetrates the wood and lets it breathe, so it does not peel like paint. Solid stain gives a paint-like colour with stain-like performance, which is why we usually recommend staining for decks.

When is the best time to stain a deck?

Late spring to early autumn, when the wood is dry and overnight temperatures stay mild. We avoid staining in direct midday sun on hot days.
